SANTA MONICA (CBS) —Santa Monica’s proposed residential smoking ban has failed because of the ordinance’s possible effect on medical marijuana users.
The beach community’s residents, including medical marijuana smokers, would have had to disclose to their landlords and get their units designated as smoking units. The measure, which initially had majority support on the City Council, failed 4-2 after harsh criticism from medical marijuana users and smoking advocates, according to the Los Angeles Times.
In Santa Monica, smoking is already banned at public parks, beaches, libraries, in outdoor dining areas, within 20 feet of operable windows and doors and on the Third Street promenade.
